A bit of British morale on a rainy day

Our first full day at Shambala celebrated British film in all its different forms. Even the weather outside was keeping up our Blighty theme – lots of rain means lots of happy cinema-goers!

We started the day with some short animations for children programmed by Whirlygig Cinema, followed by cockney-classic Mary Poppins, all of which received big smiles and lots of applause from our big audience of little people.

Then it was heads down as Laura and Matt from Curzon continued the film-based family fun with a Drawing on Film workshop. Adults and children scribbled and scratched onto 16mm film and then watched with pure fascination as their efforts were spliced together and fed onto a projector to be screened in front of their eyes.

Other highlights included animations from the late and great Oliver Postgate, received with love and warmth from our packed out auditorium, shorts programmed by Lux and a captivating rescore of the stunning abstract masterpieceThe Colour of Pomegranates from magnificent film-score pros The Cabinet of Living Cinema.

Join us today for Revolution Day, a sideways look at revolution and politics and film. Look out for fresh and forward-thinking documentary Just Do It, a Dirty Dancing masterclass, live cinema from 7-Inch Cinema and plenty of cracking features to get the revolutionary fire inside you burning.
